Many of you might know that Futura is a huge baseball fan. Recently he worked with Nike Sportswear on a New York Yankees collection, including two Air Force 1 Hi’s and two Lo’s, as well as an apparel collection. The people from 12ozProphet sat down with the artist to talk about the project and give a closer look at the collection.
“In case you don’t already know, Futura is a massive baseball fan and has frequently collaborated with Nike over the years, so bringing him on board once again for this latest Be True installment was a natural fit. The result is a capsule collection released by Nike Sportswear in cooperation with the New York Yankees. The collection is inspired by a genuine love for sport and showcases an entirely new remix of Yankees graphics, slogans and iconography released on both apparel and footwear.”
Soon some new Nike Summer 2010 footwear will be released. The new release includes three colorways of the Air Max 1, featuring refreshing summer colors, including yellow, orange and blue. The Tennis Classic comes in a white/green colorway with matching striped laces. The Air Max 90 Current Torch shines with some great innovative features and materials, while coming in a clean all black colorway. The footwear is now available for pre-order at End.
Vault by Vans and Major League Baseball celebrate the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Opening Day by releasing the Los Angeles Dodgers Sk8-Hi LX for Conveyor at Fred Segal. Only 12 pairs of the Dodgers’ Sk8-Hi LX were made and each comes with a matching Majestic Authentic Jersey. The Sk8-Hi LX goes on sale on Tuesday, April 13 and will only be available at Conveyor at Fred Segal in Santa Monica. The L.A. Dodgers open at home that day against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Another interesting artistic collaboration has evolved around the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II soccer boot. This time the sportswear giant commissioned photographer Sølve Sundsbø.
“Known for his unique image manipulation, Sølve’s shoot encapsulates a kinetic look, highlighting the groundbreaking and ground sensing design of the boot’s innovative adaptive traction studs.
With his trademark clarity and post-production digital flair, Sølve plays on the extensive craftsmanship that lies within the Mercurial boot. His rationale is simple, “The great amount of research that has gone into this shoe is not necessarily immediately visible. That’s why I wanted to visualise its technological and scientific aspects first.”
Channeling the boot’s technology and clean aesthetic with Flywire carbon fibres and traction adapting studs, this imagery reinforces football’s future – style with substance.”
Mackdaddy has released a pair of saddle shoes as part of their Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. Nice details include bi-tonal uppers and studs, as well as white outer soles. The shoes come in two colorways and are now available from Mackdaddy retailers.
Nike is bringing back one of the all-time classic AM95 colorways in the above Comet Red/Grey. If you know, then you know. They’ve already hit mita in Japan, but be on the lookout for a stateside release shortly.
