R.I.P. Adam MCA Yauch 1964 2012 | Founding Member of the Beastie Boys

Something quite implausible came across the news wire about three hours ago. However, its confirmed that Adam Yauch, founding member of the Beastie Boys, passed away early today after a brave 3-year battle with cancer. He was 47.

Yauch, who goes by the moniker MCA, forever transformed the music-scape with fellow Beastie Boys Mike D (Michael Diamond) and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz). Beloved by fans worldwide for their wild party boys persona and rap lyrics, the trio became pioneers of sort, as a white rap group from NYC’s hardcore punk scene of the 1970s. A prolific discography that includes Paul’s Boutique (1989), Check Your Head (1992), Ill Communication (1994), and more. But it was the group’s first album, the 1986 Licensed to Ill, that signaled the oncoming popularity of hip hop when it became the first LP of its kind to claim the #1 spot on Billboard 200. In addition to his music, Yauch, who was a Buddhist, became a passionate activist for Tibet and vocal opponent against the current occupation by China.

In 2009, while working on the group’s most recent album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, Yauch made a public announcement via a YouTube video about his cancerous parotid gland and lymph node. Work on the album and tour came to a halt as Yauch underwent surgery and treatment. The group made a triumphant return almost exactly a year ago with the release of Hot Sauce Committee Part Two and Fight For Your Right (Revisited), a star studded full-length music video. It was just two weeks ago that Beatie Boys got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Noticeably absent was Yauch, though Mike D and Ad-Rock read a letter on stage in his behalf, in which he thanked fans and his fellow band mates. Adam “MCA” Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu, daughter Tenzin Losel Yauch, the extended Beastie Boys family, and the countless fans around the globe.

Nike Implements Twitter RSVP System For Sneaker Releases To Start With Air Jordan XII Playoffs

The line-up, camp-out, carnival-like atmosphere as well as the occasional riot and stampede will all be a thing of the past very soon. Perhaps to stemmed the ongoing negative press over its practices for exclusive edition launches, Nike is setting the stage for a new Twitter RSVP system for sneaker releases. A high tech solution to eliminate all the unfavorable experiences relating to the line-up, the new process also ensures an amount of fairness among all sneakerheads. To start, simply follow the feed of your nearest Store or NikeTown retail point. Prior to a major release, will inform potential buyer of a designated date for RSVP. On the said date, stores will begin tweeting time for the RSVP process to begin. Once the RSVP starts, potential buyers much Direct Message the store within 60 minutes and include:

1> Product Specific #Tag Sent Out By The Store
2> Last 4 Digits Of Your ID – State, Passport, Military, or School
3> Your Shoe Size

RSVP confirmation will be in the form of Direct Message from the store to you. Similar to an actual line-up, all sizes will be available via a “first respond, first serve” basis. Customers with confirmed RSVP must present identification and pick up their product in person on the day of the launch.

With the introduction of the Twitter RSVP system, Nike will also ban all midnight in-store releases, in turn, eliminating all line-up and camp-out. While the new procedure only accounts for Nike retail locations and not third-party outfit such as Foot Locker, it is the label’s way to ensure fairness and the safety of its consumers.

NBA To Consider Jersey Sponsorships

The rendering above might be a bit exaggerated though it reflects a possible future path for the NBA. Over the weekend, the league’s governing body, the Board of Governors, met in New York City for the ratification of major proposals set for the next season. Among the agendas were New Jersey Nets’ move to Brooklyn, plans for Sacramento Kings’ new stadium, and the query to add sponsorships onto team jersey. Already a common practice among individual athlete in tennis, golf, auto racing, and team sports abroad, the , along with MLB, NFL, and NHL, are the last few held outs in the world of sports. While fans deemed team uniforms to the last few sacred bastion free of commercialization, team owners see them as possible revenue generators. One recent example was Herbalife‘s sponsorship to Los Angeles Galaxy, a contract valued at $44 million dollars over a 10-year period and attribute to its standing as Major League Soccer‘s richest team. A supportive gesture from a nation of 65 million people, the French Football Federation (FFF) decided to unveil the French National Football Team’s Home Kit within the prestigious Quartier des Célestins, home to the Republican Guard in Paris. With honor guards from the Cavalry Regiment as the backdrop, players Camille Abily (OL), Laure Boulleau (PSG), Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle), Gaël Kakuta (Dijon), Mamadou Sakho (PSG), Gilles Sunu (Lorient), Patrice Evra (MU), Mathieu Valbeuna (OM), Alou Diarra (OM), and Hervin Ongenda (PSG) entered in a formation under the vaulted hall designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel himself. For a hint of the dramatics, French military band prompted the occasion with music inspired by La Marseillaise, all again to highlight the aspirations of the French people.

New York Knicks Head Coach Mike DAntoni Resigns Phil Jackson Listed As Possible Replacement

Even the meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin couldn’t save Mike D’Antoni, the embattled Head Coach for the New York Knicks. After a bruising loss to the Chicago Bulls on Monday night, D’Antoni submitted his resignation during a meeting this afternoon with James L. Dolan, chairman of the NY Knicks/MSG organization, and general manager Glen Grunwald. In his contract’s last year as the head coach, D’Antoni took the helm in 2008 after the tumultuous tenure of Isiah Thomas. Under D’Antoni, Knicks enjoyed more attention in recent years, first with the addition of Carmelo Anthony to the roster, then the fervor over Jeremy Lin’s rise. Yet, D’Antoni never truly capitalize these occasions into an actual winning season. Plus, the ongoing tension between his coaching method and ’s style of play, which rumored to be one of the key factors for D’Antoni’s resignation. Assistant coach Mike Woodson will step in as the interim coach for the duration of the season. Meanwhile, the Knicks organization is seeking for a new head coach. One possible candidate in the running, Phil Jackson, the retire head coach of L.A. Lakers and Chicago Bulls, who started his career in basketball as a player for the Knicks.

Hedi Slimane To Return To Yves Saint Laurent

Even before the start of Paris Fashion Week, parent company Gucci Group made no secret that Yves Saint Laurent‘s creative director Stefano Pilati will be presenting his last collection Monday evening . And like that, Pilati, who was at the helm of the fashion house since 2004, unceremoniously left. Replacing him will be a familiar figure at YSL, designer and sometimes photographer , who led the brand when picked by Pierre Bergé, ’s longtime partner, in 1996. During a closed door session among key company personnel this morning, YSL executive Paul Deneve made the official announcement though no confirmation on Slimane’s appointment will be available till Wednesday.

Ewing Athletics New Website Launch

Similar to that of Michael Jordan’s, the basketball career of Patrick Ewing is something most would be envious about. Plucked as the #1 Draft Pick of 1984 from Georgetown, where he was a NCAA Champion, Ewing went on to lead the New York Knicks for 15 years till his trade to Seattle SuperSonics in 2000. Along the way, Ewing won the NBA Rookie of the Year title, a 2-time member of the “Dream Team”, went onto 11 NBA All-Star Games, and became the most visible Knicks player for more than a decade. To honor such storied career, Ewing Athletics, his very own signature footwear label, is set for a relaunch this summer. The brand first came onto the scene at the height of Ewing’s career in the early 1990s. Though the sneakers were virtually indistinguishable from the Delta Force of an earlier era, its bold letterings and oversized tongue became something of a trend statement among New York City students. The label, which has since closed, hopes to capitalize on the fans’ new found interest with the current fervor surrounding the Knicks after a decade of decline. Most importantly, it wants to share with them the story of one of the team’s most celebrated player. Look for Ewing Athletics products to arrive later this summer.

While grim, their shared afflictions, struggles, and grievances also gave them a collected strength and resolve to see the end of the disease. Along with seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, a group of world class athletes, each affected by the disease directly or indirectly, will join the fight in education, prevention, and research for a cure.
