Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Leo Messi Limited Edition

Based on the new 41mm Royal Oak chronograph, Audemars Piguet produced a Royal Oak ‘Leo Messi’ limited edition watch series. Limited to 1000 pieces globally, the watch is available in either steel/tantalum, pink gold/tantalum or platinum/tantalum and it houses a self-winding mechanical calibre 2385 movement. We especially like the gold/tantalum version, as that is certainly something that one does not come across very often. The steel and platinum versions are of course more every day friendly. The watches all come with alligator straps and with an additional sportier rubber strap, both replacing the more traditional stell strap.

The price of the the Leo Messi Royal Oak chronograph ranges from $30,400 for the steel/tantalum model, $51,400 for the pink gold/tantalum and $83,300 for the platinum/tantalum.

Audemars Piguet Making of Royal Oak Tapisserie Dial | Video

The Royal Oak by Swiss prestige watchmaker Audemars Piguet – celebrating its 40th anniversary this year — is famous for its tapisserie pattern dial. It’s essentially the face of the timepiece, giving it character and a distinct identity. The craftspeople at Audemars Piguet have been manufacturing the White Oak dial using the same techniques since 1972. Tradition and expert skill trump CNC technology in their workshop, as the following video demonstrates. Clocking in at two and half minutes, the short film depicts the various steps and intricate work that go into the construction of the dial, from the etching of the tapisserie pattern to the application of white gold hour markers. Check it out below. via: perpetuelle

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver in Forged Carbon

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver in Forged Carbon

Luxury Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet has just announced the official release of a super lightweight forged carbon fiber version of their classic Royal Oak Offshore dive watch. Having already seen a storied history of experimenting with premium metals including carbon in the past, the latest offering is an affirmation of company’s testament to innovative quality. Differing from woven automotive and aeronautic applications, forged carbon fiber is compressed under heat which results in a uniquely marbled effect making it perfect for watch casings. Even with this special case, the Forged Carbon ROO Diver retains all of the signature features and depth resistance of its traditional metal siblings. You can read more about the movements and history of the Royal Oak Offshore here.

Presented at this week’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Watch. Part of its 2012 Novelties line, this Royal Oak, designated with the number 1972-2012, marks the 40 years since the creation of Royal Oak, one of the most recognizable timepiece collection with its octagon bezel. Its creation also ushered in the popularity of stainless steel construct, where as precious metals were more prevalent back then. Reduced profile into a ultra thin form factor, the skeletal dial face unveils the storied Calibre 2121. Unfortunately like many novelities, AP will only produce 40 sets of the Royal Oak 1972-2012.
