Vans celebrates the 10-year anniversary of Southern California boutique Blends with an exclusive Vans Vault Sk8-Hi Zip LX. The original design of the iconic high top is revamped with buttery leather upper construction, a heel zip closure and, most drastically, a bone-shaped jazz stripe. Limited to 100 pairs, the Sk8-His are set to release Friday, March 8, at Blends.

We often lament at the fact that the best things nowadays aren’t made in the U.S. anymore. This new collaboration between Red Wing and So-Cal retailer BLENDS is about to instill a reversal of that. Limited to 150 pairs, the BLENDS x Red Wing 6″ Round Toe Boots are part of the “Made in the USA” campaign, where consumers get a first-hand look at American craftsmanship and quality. Headed by Tak Kato, creative director of BLENDS, a series of subtle details were added to present a more causal silhouette. In place of the traditional leather, supple suede covered the 6″ Round Toe Boots, the first time in the design’s history. Next, Kato applied tonal stitches and mixed in element from the Red Wing Irish Setter sports boots with the addition of quick-lace hooks. In effect, the new design works for everyone. Thus, propagate what is already known in previous generations, that American craftsmanship is alive and well. The BLENDS x Red Wing – 6-Inch Round Toe Boots will be available tomorrow, December 10th, at BLENDS retail locations.

Roughly three years ago, BLENDS came up with the concept of a Made in USA campaign to support the American economy and reintroduce the unparalleled work ethic and craftsmanship of American workers to a new generation. Simplicity and minimalism are key aspect of Blends design concept, with Taj Kato, BLENDS creative director, picking the classic 6” Round Toe Boot with the idea to make them more casual. Choosing to utilize a suede upper, a concept that has never been used on the 6” boots in the USA before, these are strikingly original. Only 150 pairs were produced, with the release set for December 10.

Continuing with their ongoing Made in USA campaign, which also included a release with RRL last year, BLENDS has unveiled their follow up to that with these 6″ Round Toe Red Wing boots. For this project. BLENDS creative director Tak Kato went with an all black suede upper, which is something never done before with this style in the USA.
Other details include tonal stitching was used throughout the upper – with the exception of contrasting white stitching above the sole – to tone down the boot. Tasteful silver eyelets were also utilized, but 3 hooks were used in lieu of eyelets on the top, which was inspired by classic Irish Setter sport boots. 150 of these will be available at all 3 Southern California BLENDS locations on December 10.
