ABT Audi R8 V10

The ABT Audi R8 V10 is nothing short of beautiful. The 5.2 FSI engine (serial 525 hp / 386 kW) has been “ABT POWERed” and now shows 600 PS / 441 kW; torque now being 550 Nm. It only takes 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph (about 60 mph), and it goes without saying that a top speed of 320 kph (about 198 mph) is no problem at all. The globally leading tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group uses ABT POWER and extravagant and stylish elements to underscore the normal Audi R8 portfolio’s dynamism and sportiness in a consistent fashion. A First Look at the Porsche 918 Spyder

After presenting a prototype just last year, German car manufacturer Porsche has introduced the final version of its latest model, the Porsche 918 Spyder. Built around the concept of combining maximum performance with minimal consumption, the 918 Spyder was created entirely around the hybrid drive and features carbon fiber body with a low center of gravity resulting in a slightly rear-end biased axle load distribution. A “map switch” on the steering wheel allows drivers to choose from five operating modes which then combine the efficiency of three separate power units. Most impressive is the 4.6-liter, eight-cylinder engine that produces 608 horsepower and the car’s ability to go from 0 -62 km/h in 7 seconds when running in pure electric mode.

The wonderful folks over at The Drive Channel have uploaded this fantastic video that  gives insight into the newly unveiled Lamborghini Egoista. The single-seater concept is characterized by two fundamental aspects: its architecture, and the materials used. The cockpit, designed like a tailor-made suit for the driver, is a removable section which, once combined with the rest of the vehicle, creates a perfect technical, mechanical and aerodynamic unit. Not made for production but as an Homage car, it takes on a distinctly German Militaristic look. Designed by the Volkswagen Group.

BMW Teases New Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé

At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013, BMW and Pininfarina will unveil the result of their debut cooperation to the public on May 24. “Together they have created the embodiment of sheer elegance.” The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé is the sequel to a new approach introduced at last year’s Concorso in the shape of the BMW Zagato Coupé. The close collaboration with the Pininfarina design team has led to a new automotive personality “brimming with character and ready to join the high-end luxury class: typically BMW and bearing the refined imprint of Pininfarina.” The exterior is said to “symbolize the modern harmony between power and elegance encapsulated by the V12 engine under the bonnet.”

KTM X Bow GT Street Legal Go Kart

Austrian manufacturer KTM has unveiled the latest version of their popular X-Bow go-kart. Appropriately dubbed the X-Bow GT, the improved model features an added layer of safety and comfort with a windshield, side windows and doors.  A 2.0-liter turbo TFSI engine from Audi provides a whopping 280 horsepower and takes the lightweight vehicle from 0 – 100 km/h (0 – 62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds.

Lamborghini Egoista Concept for 50th Anniversary

Lamborghini has celebrated its 50th anniversary these last weeks and for the occasion presents the new Egoista concept sports car. Unveiled at the last stop of the Grande Giro d’Italia tour, the car is powered by a 600 hp V10 engine.

influenced by the world of aviation – specifically an apache helicopter – the cockpit can be ejected in an emergency.”

In general Lamborghini took a rather extreme design route with the Egoista, seen both on the exterior and on the interior, which reminds of a helicopter and/or airplane cockpit.

Watch the Handcrafted Production Process of the Audi R8

German auto manufacturer Audi has put together a short video highlighting the handcrafted production process of their incredibly powerful R8. Although just under a minute and a half long, the video touches upon the detailed assembly undergone by each vehicle that leaves its Neckarsulm factory. With 241 people working on each R8, every component is hand-placed and adjusted by eye.

The use of the word “handcrafted” though is questionable as certain parts like the sheet metal aren’t hand-rolled like they are on truly handcrafted automobiles. Perhaps “hand-assembled” is a better and more appropriate term to use in this case. Regardless, the R8 is a beautifully crafted machine that has the rare combination of daily usability and head-turning looks.

Bentley Announces Le Mans Limited Edition Models

Bentley Motors has announced six new Le Mans Limited Edition specifications available on the flagship Mulsanne and the Continental family, exclusively available in North America. Each model is inspired by a driver from Bentley’s six victories at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours race. Each car will have a unique Le Mans Edition numbered badge, Le Mans Edition clock face, embroidered Le Mans badge to each headrest, tread plates with the limited edition name, unique Le Mans Edition wheels and specific interior veneers and exterior colors. Continental GT models will be available in the second quarter of 2013 with Mulsanne Le Mans Edition models available beginning in the third quarter. Monster-truck racing is traditionally the domain of men from rural pockets of the United States who have a bunch of free time on their hands and no qualms with spending upwards of $150,000 USD on wildly impractical vehicles. No strangers to combining spectator experiences with hallucinogenic drugs – having attended The Westminster Dog Show while hopped up on acid – Vice recently visited a monster truck exhibition in Hartford, Connecticut to find out what its like to witness the damage a gigantic truck with 2,000 ponies under the hood can do while viewing it under the influence of acid.
