Jordan Brand originally teamed up with UK artist Dave White for a special make-up of the Air Jordan 1 in February of 2011, where 23 pairs of a the AJ1 designed in sublime DW fashion would be auctioned off for charity. This gold-tipped USA-inspired colorway was one of the most talked about sneakers of the year, as the entire auction event drew in over $23,000 for the Jordan Brand WINGS For The Future charity. With just 23 pairs in existence, the value of these rarities have climbed in tandem with the rise in the general popularity of Air Jordans, so a look back at the final twenty-three winning bids tells you that these were sold at a ‘bargain’ of sorts (an average of just over $1,000 per pair). Headlining what was possibly the biggest release date ever was the Dave White x Air Jordan 1; the collaborative effort between the UK-based artist and Jordan Brand fueled by a charitable cause first began in early 2011 when twenty-three limited pairs were released via an online auction. Roughly one year later, a general release version hit stores and immediately sold out – just see how many people lined up at NikeTown NYC to clear out whatever they had in stock. Air Jordan 1 High Dave White New Images

February was already poised to be a fantastic month-long stretch of sneaker releases, but last week’s revelation of the Air Jordan 1 High Dave White release date just made it even better. Jordan Brand will in fact release these to the public on February 11th, but will follow that up with a second wave of releases scheduled on February 24th – the day before the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. Dave White’s design of the Air Jordan 1 will go towards support of the Jordan Brand WINGS For The Future program, which aims to assists in-need schools with new facilities and counseling. Jordan Brand launched its WINGS For The Future program in 2011 with Dave White, a world-renown artist recognized for his trademark works of art with classic Nike and Air Jordan shoes as the muse. Not only did White design a limited-edition pair of the Air Jordan 1, he played the role of ‘mentor’ by attending the program’s event at Inglewood High School. Later in 2011, Sneaker News broke the news of a release-version of the Air Jordan 1 Dave White; remember, the first version was limited to just 23 pairs, handed out the public via an online auction for the purpose of raising dollars for the WINGS program. This time around, the shoe will release to the masses – Jordan fans, philanthropic members of the community, Dave White aficionados – and is expected to quickly disappear from shelves once it hits stores on February 11th. However, Jordan Brand will also re-release a run of the on February 24th in conjunction with the 2012 NBA All-Star Game and the WINGS program. A graphic tee will also be available with the release.
