New Year’s Eve Shoes

Go all out this New Year’s Eve with our shimmery and sexy towering heels! Whether you ring in 2012 dancing the night away at an elegant party or laying low with friends and family watching the ball drop on television, it is imperative that you dress up! If glitzy shoes like Sam Edelman’s Scarlett are just not your style, opt for a velvet pair, like the Coraline Shoe by Messeca which is just as lavish. Or, try a funky snake print like the Jeffrey Campbell Milder shoe which is a killer, less expensive version of the Python Gucci Pump! All options will compliment your sequined ensemble or totally take your little black dress to the next level.

Shopper’s Resolutions: Vintage in 2012

I’ve often professed my interest in vintage apparel, but with a short attention span and a lack of focus I have never been able to seriously scour the racks for a good find. We’ve heard countless reasons for buying vintage including the facts that it is resourceful, one-of-a-kind, and generally higher quality materials. Karmaloop is home to many bona fide vintage hunters, with many of them selling on Kazbah, Plndr, or Etsy, and I’m hoping that in 2012 I can learn some of their tricks. If you’re in the same camp as me, why not fulfill this sartorial promise with a New Year’s Eve dress? Great way to put your resolution to work! Here are some of our picks for satisfying party pieces, all from *Vintage Boutique.

Treat Yo Self with Festive Dresses and Coats

Major events are coming up in the next couple of weeks. 2011 has been a roller coaster year for many, so why not end it with a bang? We’ve got 3 great party dresses (yup! a new filter for your shopping ease) plus 3 sharp toppers to throw on when you are en route to your festivities and back. All options trump using your date’s suit jacket, and each of these outfits offer a situation-appropriate amount of glitz.

Let’s start with above: You’ve got a company holiday party and you want to look pretty and polished but also confident and not overly sexy. We are far from experts on the topic of corporate stuffy workplaces considering that anything goes here at Karmaloop, as long as you look your best version of you. That said, we can’t imagine any office party that would make the Clarissa Jacquard Dress look out of place (certainly not ours!). This updated version of BB Dakota‘s 2010 holiday frock is figure flattering and features on-trend colors. For a structured dress like this, add a little contrast and edge with a tailored leather jacket like the Lola Biker Jacket by Plastic Island.

Next up we’ve got your best friends house party (a non-ugly sweater party — we’ve got different outfit suggestions for that). Want to look cute for Instagram pics and charm the pants off that friend of a friend you’ve been crushing on? Look no further than the Lynch Dress by Lucca Couture. This take on the two-tone dress is fun and flirty with a textured sheen on the skirt and a fitted top. I think a great complement to the simple colors of this dress is the olive green of the Margaux Fur Detail Jacket, also by Plastic Island. Plus the fur trim adds some luxury, especially when you pair the getup with a mixed metal statement necklace!

Finally, the dress events to end all over the top dress events: New Year’s Eve! Turn heads in the Golden Leaf Dress from *LA Boutique, a one shouldered mini with a regal sequined leaf pattern. Add the faux fur Braden Coat by BB Dakota and you’ll look like such a star people will be asking for your autograph.

Holiday Wishlist: Chelsea

On this glorious week of apple pie, tryptophan-induced naps, and hometown reunions, we also enjoy the major shopping components between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Chelsea is crossing her fingers that someone will pick up these great gifts for her to rock all winter long.

Job at Karmaloop? Producer and Host of KarmaloopTV

Describe your style: Well as Coco Chanel claimed, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” I would describe my style as classic chic with a touch of funk. I love classic pieces that will last for seasons and like incorporating statement pieces to make an otherwise practical outfit modern and bold. Always have and always will love to dress up!

Favorite part of the holiday season? My favorite part of the holidays is picking out special and unique gifts for all the people I love. It makes me happy to give back and surprise others. Getting all fancy and drinking cocktails is also high on the list. Christmas eve martinis at the Oak Bar (my favorite place) in Boston has become a new favorite tradition of mine, nothing beats live jazz and being with those you love most.  I hope everyone has an awesome holiday season!

Jill Scott featuring Eve – Shame

Philadelphia's very own Jill Scott offers the visual rendition of her Eve assisted “Shame” off her new album Light of the Sun, due later this year. The eclectic songstress is making sure that plenty of hometown love is shown as the clip was shot at the Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center. Expect local representatives like Black Thought, Peedi Crakk, Meek Mill, and Ms. Jade to make an appearance above.

Thanks to the current involvement of Swizz Beatz and Reebok, we had the chance to link up with the musician and producer in New York City last week at his studio. Swizz defines what it means to be classic, some classic Ruff Ryders songs, and what it takes to create classic music. Ruff Ryders First Lady Eve, also shares her experiences working with Swizz and explains why he is good at what he does.

While talking about everything classic, you also get a little preview of some of the Reebok product that he was involved in recently, with much more to come!
