Murs and Fashawn Link For Double EP

Fashawn

This is some really good news.  K-Salaam and Beatnick have announced that they are currently working on a double EP with Cali’s Fashawn and Murs.  No music has been released, there’s no title, no label, just the creative process at this point.  K-Salaam said in an email, “what we can say is that the music is sounding amazing, and we are very excited and eager to see the peoples’ reactions to this dope piece of work.”

We’re very eager to hear it.

Murs – Gods Gone Crazy (Video)

While folks that have donated via the project’s Kickstarter page have already had some great exclusives, Gods Gone Crazy acts as the first public release from Murs’ upcoming album Yumiko: Curse Of The Merch Girl (due out this Wednesday).

The album and novel unite to tell the story of Yumi Morales, a girl living the fabled tour life working the merchandise table for her boyfriend Dominick’s band Murder Acts. The 124-page graphic novel is illustrated by Jose Garcia, written by Josh Blaylock and the ten-song album – whose lyrics are printed in their entirety throughout the novel – is produced entirely by DJ Foundation. Yumiko is available only via the project’s Kickstarter page, where a range of different pledge options will get you everything from the novel and CD to exclusive apparel, custom download cards illustrated by David Mack and Jim Mahfood, and a personal thank-you note and Twitter follow from Murs. Followed by the release of the album and book, an animated music video will officially be unveiled at Murs’ party during the Comic-Con convention in San Diego. “Yumiko is hip hop and comics done correctly,” says Murs of the project. “Comics have always been a huge inspiration to me. And having the chance to publish my own comic is truly an honor. Working with my partners to create this book was a lot of fun and we are looking forward to making our dream a reality with the help of the fans.”

MERCHGIRL Launches from Devil’s Due: Online Comic by Josh Blaylock and Murs

HIP-HOP SENSATION MURS AND COMIC PUBLISHER/CREATOR JOSH BLAYLOCK TEAM UP FOR MERCHGIRL: THE CURSE OF YUMIKO MORALES

SUPERNATURAL ADVENTURE DEBUTS THIS FALL AS ONLINE COMIC
CHICAGO, IL- This Fall the worlds of music and comics team up for a the release of a brand new creation as rapper Murs and comic guru Josh Blaylock join forces.

Combining and connecting the internet with the world of print publication, the two creative powerhouses each bring their intimate subcultural fluency to the project; Murs from the territory of streets, beats and rhymes and as an outspoken, active comic fan (as noted by his weekly twitter updates) and Blaylock from his own realm of the comic world as the founder and president of Devil’s Due Publishing.

Yumiko “Yumi” Morales is a lost soul working as a merch girl for her boyfriend’s touring hip-hop-funkadelic-party band “Murder Acts”, but ends up caught in a supernatural thrill ride when she’s left alone in a small strange town. It seems that only a bizarre opening act comprised of uncanny, mysterious figures have a clue to what is happening to her, and what she must do to stop it.

The first chapter of MerchGirl will debut as a serialized strip online this September, and be available in print in the following months from Devil’s Due Publishing, with additional exclusive print-only content. The comic will be supported through agressive social online marketing to music and comic book fans alike, through the traditional comic book store marketing channels, and during Murs upcoming multi-city tour in the fall.

MerchGirl is one of the first spin-off efforts of the recently annouced PopCult collective, an entertainment and pop culture solutions company.
