Ryshon Jones: “Orange” (prod by Thelonious Martin)

Ryshon Jones

A few weeks ago, Thelonious Martin dropped the instrumental album, Colors.  It featured all new instrumentals and invited emcees to get a little trippy.  Ryshon Jones took him up on his offer, and went in over Thelonious’ track, “Orange”.  He finished it last night, and decided to waste no time in giving it to the people.  Check it out below.

John West – Nobody

Following his previous releases alongside Pusha T and Big Sean, singer/rapper John West takes a lone voyage with "Nobody." This slow jam reverberates the R&B sounds of the early 00’s, drawing parallels to the likes of Jon B and Joe with West’s vocals laid down over a smooth production including piano composition. Expect to see a visual for this one in the next week or so and West’s latest self-titled EP is out now.

Prada: “Dreams” featuring Sarah Green

Prada on RubyHornet.com

A few years ago, Lupe Fiasco broke the news right here on RubyHornet that he was greatly reducing his FNF label to focus on his own career.  It appears Lupe is ready to give the label another go, and has selected 20 year-old Chicago native, Prada, as the label’s first signee since 2009. Prada’s introduction comes via the Sarah Green assisted, “Dreams”, a very uplifting and sunny record about going for yours, which is off Prada’s forthcoming mixtape entitled The Recognition.  Listen to the record and download it below.

Childish Gambino – We Ain’t Them (Prod. by Childish Gambino & Ludwig)

After tag teaming his own beat with Black Hippy member ScHoolboy Q on the recently released track “Unnecessary,” Childish Gambino lets loose another self-produced cut titled, “We Ain’t Them.” After going on an admirable Twitter rant addressing his upbringing, love for creating, and various unfortunate rumors, the Community star released the track via Twitter, likely as an extension of the one-sided conversation with his fans. “We Ain’t Them can be streamed below or downloaded at IAmDonald.com.

Selah Sue Featuring J. Cole – Raggamuffin (Supa Dups Remix)

Even though there are seemingly no boundaries in this Internet age, popular music still differs considerably from country to country. A prime example of this is Belgian beauty Selah Sue, whose debut self-titled album premiered in the Top 10 in France, the Netherlands and Belgium upon its release in 2011 and has sold over 400,000 units to date in Europe. Despite those impressive statistics, the reggae-influenced soul artist has yet to make much of a mark in the U.S. That could be changing in the coming months, though. On August 21, Columbia Records will be releasing Sue's debut album stateside. Included on it will be three exclusive tracks that aren't available on other countries' versions. One of those songs may be this brand new J. Cole and Supa Dups-assisted remix to the most well known song in her catalog, "Raggamuffin." Give Sue's first official U.S. release a spin below.

[Video] Caleb James: “Freddie” featuring Nico Segal

More Savemoney to round out the afternoon, this one coming in visual form from Caleb James. A week or so ago Caleb dropped “Freddie“, a track produced by Them People and Caleb himself and featuring Nico Segal on trumpet, about the murder of a friend and the feelings that envelope such an event. With a sample of Curtis Mayfield’s “Freddie’s Dead”, Caleb plays the part of two friends learning of the Freddie’s murder and plotting their revenge. The wordplay back and forth between the  James’s two characters reminds me a lot of vintage Wu-Tang.

To accompany the ill track, Elijah Alvarado delivered a dope visual piece. With some legit green screen action, the director puts James in front of some great classic movie clips and scenery, highlighting the storyline and enhancing the retro sample. Check it out below and be on the look out for an RH Interview with Caleb soon.

Kami de Chukwu: “Who You” (Prod. by Coldesack)

“Savemoney army be the clan that I ride fo’, a team full of Michaels”

Kami hit me with this latest track earlier today, telling me that there was some “new candy” in my inbox. “Who You” isn’t the sweet type of candy though, more like a Warhead that makes you mash your face up and go ‘ughhh’. Fellow Savemoney member Coldesack hooked up the production, which sounds like the modern translation of a noir movie soundtrack. The track’s vibe is perfect for Kami to introduce himself over, as he goes on about his motivations. Listen below and look for more from Kami and the rest of Savemoney on RH in the near future.

[Video] Torae “That Raw” (prod by Pete Rock)

Torae: "Real Talk"

Torae x Pete Rock is pretty much a textbook definition of rawness. It’s fitting then, that the two would come together to create the “That Raw”, a reminder this kind of Hip Hop still exists. And I fucking love it.  Torae is one of the coldest emcees, and Pete Rock… It’s Pete Rock.  Watch the video below of Torae’s last LP, For The Record.
