NBA Feet: Around The League – 6/6 – 6/7

NBA Feet: Around The League 6/6 6/7

“…Tyson, Jackson, Jordan, Game 6…”

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Co. are in. They sealed the deal on Wednesday night in Oklahoma City, finishing off their Western Conference Finals opponents in four straight games and punching in Oklahoma City’s first NBA Finals appearance in history. Out East, LeBron James and the Miami Heat faced elimination as they tipped off in Boston down 3-2, and what we witnessed was a magnificent performance on offense and defense. LeBron James, who is rather expressive on the court (whether it be jovial or in complaint), had a stone-cold stoic demeanor from beginning to end, dropping 45 points in what is undoubtedly his greatest NBA Playoffs performance of his career. He’s gone one to go on Saturday night – will he lead the Heat to a Finals showdown against the Thunder? Photos: yahoo

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ – Arriving at Retailers

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite Varsity Maize Arriving at Retailers

We’re just two games deep (or three in the IND/ORL series) into the 2012 NBA Playoffs, and already the Miami Heat are emerging as a dominant favorite in the Eastern Conference.  Not only has their chief competition lost their reigning MVP and subsequently lost a heartbreaker to the 8-seed, but the Heat are rolling thanks to a supercharged effort from LeBron James.  The King has gone up a gear as he reaches for that elusive championship ring, and so has his kick game with the Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite the most technically advanced basketball sneaker ever released.  This ‘Varsity Maize’ LeBron 9 Elite was designed as something of an alternate look for Miami’s nearly quarter-century old color scheme, a bold, alarming look that’s far from the chill ‘South Beach’ vibes.  Some have called these the ‘Taxi’ LeBron 9 Elites, but even if that name doesn’t stick, NikeStore’s non-stock on this model means you might have to call a cab to get in line for yours at retailers like Miami’s Mr. R on May 12th.  Photos: ITSB

NBA Feet: LeBron James – Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite White/Red PE

NBA Feet: LeBron James Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite White/Red PE

LeBron James and the Miami Heat took a commanding 2-0 lead in their First Round Series against the Miami Heat, and their leader did so in style by wearing a PE colorway of the controversial Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite. Unlike the released version, which featured a Gold trim and contrast Flywire cables, this PE features a red midsole with matching laces as well as a White swoosh and a black ankle-vent on the upper. LeBron also wore a PE in Game 1, which was just the ‘Home’ colorway with a Metallic Red swoosh. What sort of PE will LeBron have in store for us when he visits New York for Game 3? Check out the in-game shots as well as close-ups of LeBron’s Game 2 kicks below and let us know what you think. Photos: yahoo

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ – New Images

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ – New Images

Up to this point the Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ has been sort of the odd man out as far as colorways go for the Nike LeBron 9 Elite, with no apparent connection along the same story line of the regal gold versions and the revisit to the ‘South Beach’ theme. Our recent exclusive sit down with Nike Basketball designers Jason Petrie and Leo Chang did help to shed some light on the black and yellow pairing however, intended as a re-imagining of the traditional Miami Heat color combos. Click through for the latest look at the Nike LeBron 9 Elite ‘Varsity Maize’ and let us know if you approve of the flipped color scheme. Also, make sure you have your calender marked for the May 12th release date. Photos: Air Knight

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite ‘South Beach’ – Official Images

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite South Beach Official Images

South Beach was the first area of Miami Beach to be developed back in the Nineteen-Teens, but it was nearly a century later that this Biscayne Bay hot spot became a sneaker colorway.  People will be talking about that ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8 for another hundred years or more, a sneaker so popular it rivals the most elite Air Jordans in terms of copycat colorways (and, one day, retro potential?).  The LeBron 9 already had a variety of MIA-themed colorups, but none carries the same pedigree nor pricetag as the ‘South Beach’ Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite.  These official images depict the Wolf Grey-based, Mint Candy New Green and Pink Flash-accented LeBron 9 Elite in all its glory; do you have its June 2nd US release date circled on your calendar?

Nike LeBron 9 PS Elite ‘South Beach’ – New Photos

Nike LeBron 9 PS Elite South Beach New Photos

Some salty NBA fans might not put LeBron in the category of ‘elite’ players until he’s got a ring to show for his dominance, but even those doubters oughta have a hard time denying the elite status given to his post season sneaker for this year. The Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite is set to arrive in a group of colorways that are anything but conspicuous, with perhaps the least attention grabbing of the bunch still being a gaudy golden affair. With that being said the most attention grabbing of the bunch has to be this redux of the ‘South Beach’ colorway, a minty pair that we’ve seen gain a number of fans over the past couple weeks. Click through for more shots of the Nike LeBron 9 Elite PS ‘South Beach’ from RMK and if you feel the need to scoop them before the June 2nd release date, you can find some now on eBay.

Jason Petrie & Leo Chang Break Down the Nike Basketball Elite Series

Jason Petrie & Leo Chang Break Down the Nike Basketball Elite Series

Many sneaker fanatics and aficionados never take into consideration the painstaking efforts that go into creating the shoes that they love. The design process can be a tedious one, especially when you consider all of the factors that can sometimes tie a designer’s hands. One of the largest stumbling blocks is the need to keep materials and costs manageable in order to ensure that the final product is affordable for consumers and profitable for the brand. While we’d all love to see our Nike’s loaded up with large Air Max bags, full-length Zoom units, carbon fiber, foam and all those other costly amenities, the bottom line is that these coveted luxuries can often drive pricepoints out of control, urging the need for more cost-effective material options in their place.

But what would happen if Nike completely unchained the leash and opened the premium floodgates in the name of the ultimate performance basketball footwear? The answer is the Nike Basketball Elite Series, a no holds barred assault on the conventional design process and the budgeting limitations that can so often hold it back. For Nike Basketball designers Jason Petrie and Leo Chang, the Elite Series project is like a dream come true. With pricepoint constraints thrown out the window, the gloves were finally off to go out and reach for the pinnacle of performance basketball footwear glory. That kind of freedom doesn’t come along very often for most footwear designers, and when it does, it’s accompanied by a responsibility to meet lofty expectations.

For Jason, Leo and the rest of the Nike BBall team, the solution was to go back to the beginning to analyze and evaluate every aspect of each existing model to determine each and every place where performance could be enhanced. Materials were added, removed, invented, tweaked and shaved down, making the shoes lighter and stronger, as well as more responsive and comfortable, all in the name of providing NBA athletes and the consumers who buy the shoes with the ultimate option for the rigorous post season push. Right down to the types of threads that are woven into the laces and the sticky grips that contour to your step on the footbed, every possible detail has been considered and tailored to maximize the overall function of the shoe. The price tags might seem a bit high when you see these hit stores this weekend, but you get what you pay for and the Nike Basketball Elite Series has just raised the bar for what performance luxury can mean to a sneaker.

Continue reading for part 1 of our interview with Jason Petrie and Leo Chang and check back tomorrow for the follow-up featuring everything you need to know about upcoming Elite Series colorways.

Nike LeBron 9 Elite – Varsity Maize – Black – White | Release Date

Nike LeBron 9 Elite Varsity Maize Black White | Release Date

There is no question LeBron James’ ‘Elite’ status in the league, but an NBA Championship Ring on his finger would easily fit him alongside the greatest to ever play the game. Next weekend, LeBron James will switch on his post-season fire as he laces up the LeBron 9 Elite – the $250 sneaker that has caused quite a stirring discussion in our comments area in regards to how the MSRP would have an effect on the limits of pricing of sneakers. The Varsity Maize colorway has been praised by some as being the best Elite offering we’ve seen thus far, and this May 12th, these can be yours for a quarter of a thousand dollars (add a few bucks if your states tacks on sales tax). Must-have for you? Check out this new detailed gallery below and chime in with your thoughts. Photos: SC

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite Packaging

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite Packaging

The Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite has been one of the top trending topics in the sneaker game at the moment, a shoe that revealed a number of tech upgrades as well as a $60 price increase from the Attack Fast release of the Kobe System. While that bump in price seems rather heady, the LeBron 9 to LeBron 9 P.S. Elite beats that increase by $10, as the $170 LeBron 9 will shoot up to an MSRP of $250 for the Elite, currently set for a debut in April 20th (starting with the ‘Away’ Black/Gold colorway. While no pictures of the Elite 9 have surfaced just yet, we can make some educated guesses on what the shoe could possibly entail if we were to extrapolate the Kobe VII Elite details onto the LeBron. What we do have here is a look at the box packaging of the LeBron 9 P.S. Elite, which features the carbon fiber graphic pattern and a rainbow-holographic effect on the LJ crown logo on the upper face of the box. This particular box is for an Energy release, with a colorway marked as Wolf Grey/Minty Candy-New Green-Pink Flash. Do these pink laces point a South Beach-like colorway? Check out the images of the box below and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for more updates on the LeBron 9 P.S. Elite. via pr_again/MN
