In our most recent RE-Fresh segment, we highlighted the significance of the Nike Cortez, not only within the company’s lore but the progression of running from its start as an amateur sport to professional athletic events here in the U.S. Now, some 40 years later, that most identifiable model during the early part of ’s history will be available once again as the Nike Sportswear Track & Field Collection. Celebrating both the past and the present with Nike Lady Cortez and Nike Cortez Classic, both notable facsimiles to the original designs, from the iconic herringbone tread pattern, the EVA-layer midsole, to the upper options of either full-grain leather or weatherproof three-layer. Though replicated to the exact details of the original aesthetically, Nike updated the construct and materials for greater comfort plus durability.

As part of the Track & Field Collection, both the Nike Cortez Classic and Nike Lady Cortez are available now at select Nike Sportswear, including its flagship store in New York City.

An embodiment of Prefontaine, the updated Track & Field Collection from Nike Sportswear derived from the same “can do” ethos as the late distance runner along with the likes of Carl Lewis, Flo-Jo, Joan Benoit, and others. If you would to look into the collection’s true origin, you will find Nike Co-Founder Bill Bowerman at the helm. And as he expected perfection from his athletes, he did the same with their tools of the trade. Hence, the mix of glory, heritage, and technology in each of the collection’s design. As Black History Month officially kicks off, Nike Sportswear has unveiled their collection made especially for the occasion. This Black History month 2012 collection is a nice range consisting of some great footwear including an Air Force 1, Air Max 1, Blazer High, and Huarache Free. We also see apparel in the mix with Destroyer jackets for men and women, tee shirt, and hat. Check for the collection at Nike Sportswear retailers.

Creativity speaking, it was a way to escape from the daily grind and to tap that original inspirations which started it all. Of course, that “original inspirations” could be anything and everything, from a simple leisurely stroll on the beach to something as outrageous as a trip around the world. For Matt Stevens however, it was to reconnect with his love of illustration, its process, and his fascination with Nike Air Max. Those were the premises behind Stevens’ first project, AirMax1-a-day. But when and where there is a conjuncture between art and sneaker, there is sure to be interest from other sneaker aficionados, and a lot of it. In a short order of time, this commune of shared interest became such that Stevens took this once personal project forward a bit more and made it public. With help from crowd funding site KICKSTARTER, it became known as .

Nike Air Force 1 30th Anniversary Tees

Having debuted in 1982, the Air Force 1 will enjoy its 30th birthday this year. The shoe was created by designer Bruce Kilgore and introduced as the first basketball shoe to feature Air technology. They were originally worn by NBA players including Moses Malone, Mychal Thompson and Michael Cooper (and, until his retirement last year, the mercurial big man Rasheed Wallace). Little has changed in the iconic sneaker that’s now been released in over 1,700 color combinations, with many more variations to come throughout the milestone year. will also be releasing special commemorative tees made up of five new styles that pay tribute to one of the most influential sneaker designs in the history of the game. With just a day away, aspiring sneaker designers and Air Force 1 aficionados are all eagerly waiting to try their hands with the new Cement Pattern/Elephant Skin Design Options for NIKEiD Air Force 1. Since there will only be 750 pairs available for design, Nike created a sample run of both Air Force 1 High and Low so that folks will have a better idea before diving deep into their creations. Apparently, aside from the much publicized natural gum rubber outsole, there will be a translucent outsole option available as well.  Of course, other alterations can made such as interior lining colors, Swoosh, vamp, and more…  The Cement Pattern/Elephant Skin Design Options for NIKEiD will be available at Midnight sharp on February 1st.

Making a return after its 2011 breakout year, the new Nike Huarache Free Basketball 2012 implements the same hybrid design by merging the classic Nike Huarache upper with articulated outsole found on Free running footwear. While many die-hard sneakerheads have been indifference to any hybrid to come out of camp over the last few years, Huarache Free Basketball 2012′ new colorways, with hints of OG editions, might alter that sentiment somewhat. In limited quantities, the four new editions for Spring 2012 are now available at Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer in New York City.

After years of being overlooked despite being a cornerstone of their brand, Nike Sportswear recently gave the Cortez Classic a nylon upgrade of the iconic silhouette. Now is taking it back to its roots with the Cortez Classic OG Leather QS. Unless you’re one of the few who hasn’t seen the movie Forrest Gump, you’ve already seen this shoe in action as Forrest sports them at the bus stop and on his epic cross-country run. Set to return this spring in its original look from 40 years ago, the Cortez Leather features the larger Swoosh, heel tab, and vintage yellowed sole. Look for the release at SHELTA’s online store and or in person at its Gothenburg location.

This winter has seen many new takes on the timeless favorite from Nike Sportswear for the fellas, but this remastered Destroyer Jacket goes out to the ladies. The WMNS Destroyer Jacket features the warmth you expect from a Wool/Polyester body along with a ribbed collar, cuffs, and bottom hem and a zipper-protected chest pocket common in old school varsity jackets. The two hip pockets and inner lining are 100% nylon and match the black outer highlighted by tonal trim. And, in what is probably the most unique update from Nike, the jacket has detachable leather sleeves allowing it to become a vest with a couple quick zips under the wool lip.
