Penny Hardaway’s Nike Signature + PE Collection

Penny Hardaways Nike Signature + PE Collection

Earlier today we have you a glimpse into Penny’s personal Air Foamposite One collection, but the buck doesn’t stop there. Of course, the Foamposite One is just one of several Air Penny signature shoes to have released, so in this second showcase, Penny shows off other sick Nikes branded with his iconic 1-Cent logo. Zoom Rookies (remember the Memphis Blues and Express joints were one-of-ones first!), Air Max Penny 1s, Forces – it’s all here. Flip through the gallery of this amazing set of kicks and let us know which of Penny’s non-Foam collection stands out to you the most!

Sole Collector x Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy”

Sole Collector x Nike Zoom Rookie Galaxy

The upcoming Nike Zoom Rookie ‘Galaxy’ got a bit more interesting when we showed you a special version of the Penny hybrid shoe that featured ‘glow in the dark’ moon pods on the upper. Previously, the pods were a solid black color, so there was some confusion as to which would be the released version or if one or the other was a limited edition; it turns out the the ‘glow-pod’ version is in fact a collaboration with Sole Collector, which participated in another Penny-centric collaboration last year. Behind the velcro patch on the tongue is the Sole Collector logo embroidered on the tongue, a feature that can be left hidden or open depending on your own preference. With this new development now surfaced, which version do you prefer – black or glow?

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP “Galaxy” – New Images

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP Galaxy New Images

The most recent pair of ‘Galaxy’ Nike Zoom Rookies we saw earlier this week displayed a soft blue on the Air Flight One-inspired pods as an indication that they glow in the dark just like the sole on February’s legendary Air Foamposite One.  And just when you think that an early production model might reveal the final result, the same retailer known for getting its hands on heat months before everyone else shows us a different build.  This ‘Galaxy’ Zoom Rookie opts for black pods instead, which has a nice balancing effect but might not be quite as exciting as either the other pair’s blue ‘natural’ state (and definitely can’t outshine the GITD capability).  Still, it’s not simply cramming a bunch of details into a single sneaker that makes for a standout, and the Zoom Rookie itself represents a shining example of how to gracefully combine selections from a buffet of tasty details.  So you make the call, Sneaker News readers: glow-in-the-dark or black pods on the ‘Galaxy’ Zoom Rookie LWP?  The former is depicted in greater detail below, and be sure to stick with us to find out which version releases, and exactly when.

“Galaxy” Nike Zoom Rookie – Glow in the Dark

Galaxy Nike Zoom Rookie Glow in the Dark

Remember how the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ actually had some separate samples showing off a slightly altered version of the starry printed upper? Well as it turns out the next sneaker in line to get the ‘Galaxy’ look the Nike Zoom Rookie has some differing versions floating out there as well. What’s the difference? This tweaked version of the sneaker comes sporting a more thorough glow in the dark touch, the luminous treatment hitting on the pods that run along the side in place of the plain old black that we’ve seen recently. Click through to check out this alternate version of the ‘Galaxy’ Nike Zoom Rookie and stick with Sneaker News for word on which one will actually arrive on the September release date.

Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy” – Available on eBay

Nike Zoom Rookie Galaxy Available on eBay

Amidst all the signature sneaker hoopla that’s going on (LeBron X, KD V, CP3.VI), let’s not forget that retired Penny Hardaway and his upcoming Air Penny V, slated for a debut this November. Of course, most of Penny’s sneakers don’t see widespread in-game use, but the Penny V might change the trend of Penny’s being a lifestyle-only selection. Do you think the Galaxy Zoom Rookies will see any airtime? Rajon Rondo already broke them out once in a game (albeit the All-Star Game), so what are your thoughts on this highly-anticipated September release being a future ‘NBA Feet’ feature? Remember, these have been confirmed for a release next month and are likely to be picked up quickly, so let us know if you’re eyeing the Galaxy Rookies and check out the selling price for this pair from el-store on eBay.

“Memphis Blues” Nike Zoom Rookie LWP – Available on eBay

Memphis Blues Nike Zoom Rookie LWP Available on eBay

If you take a look over at our extensive release dates page you’ll notice that there is indeed a Nike Zoom Rookie model dropping at the beginning of August. Which specific colorway that will be is uncertain at this point, but here’s to hoping we get our hands on the dipped ‘Memphis Blues’ pair pictured here. In recent weeks the sneaker has been battling it out with the likes of the matte red pair as far as singly blocked sneakers of this ilk, but we’ve gotta give the upper hand to the game royal at the moment based of the Nike Air Penny line‘s affinity for blue if nothing else. Click through with us to see the latest photos of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Memphis Blues’ and keep in mind that you can indeed pick this pair up now from croatianstyle on eBay.

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Memphis Blues’ – Detailed Photos

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP Memphis Blues Detailed Photos

At the time of Penny Hardaway’s NBA rookie season, the dominant trends in sneaker coloring all tended toward high contrast. From the Chicago Bulls black and red to the Michigan Wolverines navy and maize and even newfangled palettes like the grape-y Charlotte Hornets, the basketball world revolved around distinct color separation. And while the uniforms both fit and breathe better these days, team colors are still uniformly more like battle flags than fashion statements. Sneakers, on the other hand, have evolved to the point where even some of the most technical performance machines display the kind of subtlety perfected in the lifestyle market.

So if Penny were still a young Orlando Magic point guard, he might show up in something like this ‘Memphis Blues’ colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP that reminds us Hardaway’s hometown college also rocks a blue-based look. They’ve got the tonal look down pat and a translucent outsole punctuates the Foamposite elements in a way that makes you wonder how a tonal Foamposite One or Pro might look. Those might be a way off, and this ‘Memphis Blues’ Zoom Rookie has us still awaiting an official release date, so stick with Sneaker News for updates and check out some new images in the meantime.
