Teyana Taylor and Her Bad Boys

Teyana Taylor is making herself known in the world of hip-hop. The Harlem native is rapping about her love for the bad boys in her latest track, aptly titled “Bad Boys,” featuring Honey Cocaine and B. Mack and produced by DJ Mustard, who is responsible for Tyga’s “Rack City.”

After years of being plagued by label politics the young singer, rapper, and actress is putting out her dope grooves as a free agent, hoping to satisfy her fans. In the meantime, she has also appeared on Kanye West’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and toured with Game.

So far this year, she dropped her new soulful single “Make Your Move” featuring Wale. Live instrumentation and Michael Jackson sampling give the R&B track an edge. Her second single, “DUI” drops today,Valentine’s Day. It’s all ahead of her upcoming free EP, The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor (available online February 29).

KarmaloopTV recently sat down with Miss Taylor to talk about her new record with Wale, her record label situation, and haters on Twitter. Check the clip above.

Karmaloop + New Brahmin Present: BEAUTY SCHOOL!

Karmaloop is back in the beauty game with our friends over at New Brahmin and we are thrilled to show you this tutorial series! Watch our inaugural clip with makeup artist Rose Fortuna showing you how to prep a smooch-able lip for upcoming Valentine’s Day.

Rosie is one fiery chick on a life mission to make pretty, but she can’t fix ugly — that’s an inside job. Wishing you all a super sweet V-day (but not so sweet that your teeth fall out from overeating candy), she hopes that these two sultry lip options suit your pucker on this most romantic night.

For her natural, pouty nude technique, you need:

  • neutral lip liner, about 2 shades deeper than your natural lip tone
  • nude gloss

Simply line your lip then fill it in with the same liner — this will act as a primer for the next step… which is shellacking on a layer of nude gloss! Only marginally more time consuming than swiping on chapstick but adds a whole lot of oomph.

For a punchy jolt of color, the bold red lip involves:

  • an angle brush to line and fill
  • a bright lipcolor (your choice)
  • a semi-sheer lipgloss
  • flat brush and concealer
  • optional: a shade lighter or brighter than the lipcolor you’re using (we played around with silver)

Use the angle brush to line and fill your lip with color; we like this process because it is precise. Start from the corner of your lip, as starting in the middle can give you an exaggerated clown-lip effect (scary).

Build color to your liking and add semi-sheer gloss to finish. To ensure your work stays put, buff around the negative lip line with concealer and a flat brush. Not sure what that means? Just study Rose in the clip!

Finally, if you want to amp up the look further tap the 2nd shade at the center of your lip for dimension.

Voila! Your lips will be so scrumptious that a makeout seash is guaranteed, at which point you will probably ruin your makeup. But hey! We aren’t miracle workers over here! At least we got you there, or so we’d like to think. ♥

Design Radar: Digital Love / V-Day Cards

pixel heart valentine card

CMYBacon tipped us off to an awesome Valentine’s Day card concept for anyone who makes your heart tick. With a pixelated pop-up design, it is especially ideal for your favorite blogger friends or I guess even a significant other found via online dating? (Still trying to wrap my head around the idea that people really do that.) Anyone on the receiving end of this digital inspired note will be impressed that you whipped up the card yourself — yep, easy instructions and a few papercuts later, you’ve crafted a geeky valentine!

Will You Be Their Valentine? What Karmaloop Gents Are Wishing For

We’ve got a mushy holiday on the horizon, and while some of you might spend it anti-celebrating it with Ben & Jerry your best friends, others have a hot date with their hubby. Whether your man friend is a platonic pal you’ve been batting eyelashes at or a longtime boyfriend, any of these sweet treats will give ‘em the warm fuzzies on February 14. We checked in with a couple familiar faces around ‘the Loop, Dennis Todisco (Lifestyle Marketing Director) and Isaiah Bond (Men’s Shoe Buyer), to see what these good lookin’ fellas are hoping to receive for V-Day.

Isaiah’s got all bases covered for a romantic evening: on the naughty side, he wants his girl to pick up lingerie for herself (like the Zebra Print Babydoll from *Intimates Boutique) plus he thinks the La Sardina El Capitan Camera would be dope for a fun filled photoshoot (wink wink, you’ll be the model tonight); for nice gifts, Isaiah would adore some new shoes like the 1460 8-Tie Boot in Cherry Red (he is a footwear buyer afterall) and a home cooked Asian meal…a good excuse to use the Good Fortune Chopsticks by FRED.

…………………………………………………………..

While Isaiah took his naughty/nice list literally, Dennis went conceptual… highlighting colorful product as nice and dark camo prints as naughty.

  • The Reversible Souvenir Jacket in Black by BLVCK SCVLE: This jacket from the homies at Blvck Scvle is tuff…waxed cotton on one side, poplin camo on the other. And the illest thing about reversible jackets is when you travel, it’s like packing two jackets for the space of one.
  • The High Post Cargo Pants in Grey Camo by 10 Deep: (As you may have figured out) I’m mildly obsessed with camo & I love 10 Deep’s refreshing spin on the classic WWII frog skin camo, plus plenty of pockets & a clean cut. Can’t go wrong with these.
  • The 21 Boot in Wine by Gourmet: If you love your man you’ll get him the 21 Boot in Wine by Gourmet. The juxtaposition of the traditional duck boot with the modern air bubble support makes this the choice boot for the winter. And nothing says love like rich burgundy leather.
  • The 42-20 Chrono Watch in All Gold by Nixon: The 42-40 Chrono is flawless and one of my favorite watches from Nixon. 6 hand japanese quartz, second sub dial, chrono and date, hardened mineral crystal external rotating bezel with countdown timer.  One of the nicest watches on Karmaloop, hands down. (No pun intended)
